Japanese Coturnix Quail – Pharaoh & Falb Fee Fertile Hatching Eggs

Fertile hatching eggs from our Japanese Coturnix Quail, also commonly known as Pharaoh Coturnix.  Chunky 350g birds who lay nice big eggs.

Our breeding group consists of traditional Pharaoh hens with Falb Fee males, giving the opportunity to hatch a lovely mixture of Pharaoh and Falb Fee coloured chicks.

Pharaoh Coturnix have the classic wild-type colouring of rich browns, creams and golds with attractive natural markings. The Fee gene reduces much of the warm brown and red colouring, producing softer shades of grey, cream, tan and black while still retaining the underlying Pharaoh pattern.

Depending on whether the male carries one or two copies of the Fee gene, chicks may hatch as either traditional Pharaoh or Falb Fee. A single-factor Fee male bred to Pharaoh hens would be expected to produce approximately 50% Pharaoh and 50% Falb Fee offspring, while a double-factor Fee male would pass the Fee gene to all of his chicks.

One of the biggest advantages of this breeding combination is that both Pharaoh and Falb Fee youngsters remain feather-sexable.

Once the breast feathers develop, usually at around 3–4 weeks old, females have a distinctly speckled breast while males develop a much clearer, more solid-coloured breast with little or no spotting.

This makes them particularly useful for anyone wanting to identify males and females early, allowing breeding groups to be organised and surplus males separated well before the hens begin laying.

The colour difference can often also be seen from hatch. Pharaoh chicks are generally darker brown with clear cream or tan stripes, while Falb Fee chicks tend to be paler with a softer grey or muted tan appearance.

Japanese Coturnix are fast-growing, hardy and very productive birds. They mature quickly and hens can begin laying from approximately 6–8 weeks of age when kept under suitable conditions.

These are a great choice for anyone wanting productive Coturnix with the added interest of two attractive colour varieties and the benefit of early feather-sexing.

Eggs are collected regularly from our established breeding birds and carefully selected before dispatch.

All eggs are sold as fertile hatching eggs, but please remember that no hatch rate can be guaranteed. Fertility, postal handling, storage and incubation conditions can all affect the final result.

Please allow eggs to settle after delivery before placing them into the incubator.
